SUN TV TO CALL SECOND TELUGU CHANNEL `TEJA'
Article Abstract:
The Sun TV group has named their second Telugu channel as `Teja TV', which will be launched during latter half of 1999. The group is currently involved in evolving programming for Teja TV. However, it may take another six months since the group's immediate interest is on launching a second Tamil channel. The group owns four southern regional channels, Sun TV in Tamil, Gemini in Telugu, Udaya TV in Kannada and Surya TV in Malayalam. The group is also planning a Bengali channel. Its international channel, Sunworld, to cater to the south Indians in North America started its operations on February 15,1999. (um)(psr)

BUOYED BY NRS RESULTS, GEMINI PLANS SECOND TELUGU CHANNEL

Gemini Television Ltd (GTL), a private TV channel of South India proposes to launch its second Telugu channel. GTL's decision is based on the recent survey of National Readership Studies (NRS) `97. NRS `97 has placed Gemini TV on the top position on all India basis ahead of its rival Eenadu TV (ETV) in all fields. NRS 97 was conducted by 3 market research organisations - IMRB, MARG and MODE. Gemini TV accounts for 9.2 percent and 10 percent viewership in three parameters while ETV accounts for 8.7 percent and 9.3 percent viewership. (ag)

INDIA'S FIRST URDU CHANNEL GOES ON AIR

Falak Television & Broadcasting Ltd of the Asanzubi Group of Hyderabad started transmission of Falak TV, an entertainment channel in Urdu, on March 17, 1999. The commercial operations of the Falak TV will begin from April 12, 1999. It is beamed through THAICOM-II. Falak Television & Broadcasting Ltd expects to offer 24-hour transmission from June 12, 1999. It plans to invest Rs48 crore in the first year and Rs178 crore in the next 3 years on the Falak TV channel. (rk) (kvr)
